Castrol Spheerol EPLX 200-2 in the 50kg keg is supplied for workshop bulk service and large grease-consumption operations. It is a multi-purpose high-performance grease based on mineral oil and a lithium-complex soap thickener, formulated for bearings and components operating at sustained elevated temperatures.
The NLGI 2 consistency is the standard bearing-grade grease consistency.
Approvals and performance levels include ASTM D4048 (copper corrosion); ASTM D217 (cone penetration); ASTM D445 (kinematic viscosity); ASTM D2596 (extreme-pressure load-wear); ASTM D942 (oxidation stability); DIN 51817 (oil separation); and DIN 51805 (low-temperature flow).
For smaller operators, Castrol Spheerol EPLX 200-2 is also available in an 18kg keg (15057C).
As with all greases, follow the equipment manufacturer's regreasing schedule and avoid mixing with greases of incompatible thickener type — incompatible thickeners can cause softening, hardening or separation of the grease in service. Store greases sealed in the original packaging, at moderate temperatures and away from direct sunlight, to preserve consistency and additive performance.
Spheerol™ EPLX 200-2 is a multi-purpose high-performance greases based on mineral oil and a lithium-complex soap. It is formulated to provide excellent high-temperature lubrication performance. It possesses EP load-carrying properties and contain additives selected to enhance oxidation, corrosion and wear resistance. Application Spheerol EPLX 200-2 grease is formulated for use in grease-lubricated plain or rolling bearings operating at temperatures from -20 to 150 °C. It may also be used for short periods at temperatures of up to 180 °C in bearings designed to operate under such conditions. In such cases, the frequency of re-lubrication should be increased; operators should contact equipment manufacturers for guidance. Examples of applications include various types of general industrial machinery, electric motors and machine tools, as well as applications involving higher temperatures - such as papermaking machinery or bearings of ventilation machinery and oven fans. Spheerol EPLX 200-2 grease is also suited for bearing lubrication under highly loaded and vibratory conditions - such as in steel mills, railway axle-boxes and construction equipment. The long service-life potential of the Spheerol EPLX 200-2 grease at temperatures over 100 °C makes it ideally suited to machines in which poor accessibility makes frequent regreasing difficult

A. NLGI is the universal grease consistency standard every reputable grease meets, ranging from NLGI 000 (semi-fluid) to NLGI 3 (firm). It is your baseline check — match the grade your handbook specifies (e.g., NLGI 2 for most multi-purpose applications) and the grease is technically suitable for your machine. Every grease on our site lists its NLGI grade.
A. Castrol Spheerol EPLX 200-2 is NLGI 2 — the standard bearing-grade grease consistency.
A. A lithium-complex grease uses a complex soap thickener rather than a simple lithium soap. The complex structure gives higher dropping point and improved high-temperature performance — typically with an operating limit around 150-160°C versus around 120-130°C for standard lithium greases.

When a grease lists the code, the grease manufacturer has developed and tested it to meet the criteria the equipment manufacturer requires.
