Oil FinderCastrol Spheerol EPLX 200-2 is a multi-purpose high-performance grease based on mineral oil and a lithium-complex soap thickener. The lithium-complex thickener gives higher dropping point and improved high-temperature performance compared to standard lithium-soap greases, suiting bearings and components operating at sustained elevated temperatures.
The NLGI 2 consistency is the standard bearing-grade grease consistency, and the EPLX product naming indicates the lithium-complex (LX) extreme-pressure (EP) chemistry.
Approvals and performance levels include ASTM D6138 (EMCOR water washout); ASTM D4048 (copper corrosion); ASTM D942 (oxidation stability); ASTM D2596 (extreme-pressure load-wear); DIN 51811 (copper corrosion); and DIN 51805 (low-temperature flow).
Castrol Spheerol EPLX 200-2 is also available in a 50kg keg (PRD00001513) for workshop bulk supply.
As with all greases, follow the equipment manufacturer's regreasing schedule and avoid mixing with greases of incompatible thickener type — incompatible thickeners can cause softening, hardening or separation of the grease in service. Store greases sealed in the original packaging, at moderate temperatures and away from direct sunlight, to preserve consistency and additive performance.
Spheerol™ EPLX 200-1 and 2 are multi-purpose high-performance greases based on mineral oil and a lithium-complex soap; they are formulated to provide excellent high-temperature lubrication performance. They possess EP load-carrying properties, and contain additives selected to enhance oxidation, corrosion and wear resistance.

A. NLGI is the universal grease consistency standard every reputable grease meets, ranging from NLGI 000 (semi-fluid) to NLGI 3 (firm). It is your baseline check — match the grade your handbook specifies (e.g., NLGI 2 for most multi-purpose applications) and the grease is technically suitable for your machine. Every grease on our site lists its NLGI grade.

A. A lithium-complex grease uses a complex soap thickener (lithium 12-hydroxystearate combined with an organic acid) rather than a simple lithium soap. The complex structure gives higher dropping point and improved high-temperature performance — typically with an operating limit around 150-160°C versus around 120-130°C for standard lithium greases.

A. Both are Castrol Spheerol NLGI 2 multi-purpose extreme-pressure greases. EPL 2 is the standard lithium-soap grease for general bearing service. EPLX 200-2 (this product) is the higher-tier lithium-complex variant with improved high-temperature performance.
A. An OEM Specification is the grease requirement set by a vehicle or equipment manufacturer (e.g., MB 267.0, MAN 283 Li-P 2). When a grease lists the code, the grease manufacturer has developed and tested it to meet the criteria the equipment manufacturer requires. Match the code in your handbook and you have a grease engineered for your machine.
