FAQs

Cutting capacity against the largest section you will cut, then supply phase against the building, then head action against how the machine will be used. All three are stated per machine.

The largest section the machine will take, not the size of the saw. The range runs 6in to 18in on the SIP swivel head bodies and 150mm to 300mm on the Sealey machines, and stock above that will not pass the blade.

That is decided by the supply in the building, not by the machine. The larger 12in and 18in bodies are held in both, so the phase is confirmed first and the machine chosen from what can actually be connected.

One drawn down through the work by hand, with a head that swivels for mitre cuts. It suits varied one-off work where the operator is at the machine anyway.

When the cut can be started and left. A horizontal machine with a hydraulic arm lowers at a controlled rate rather than needing a hand on it, which frees the operator during a long cut in heavy section.

The length and width are fixed by the machine and stated on its listing. A blade of the wrong length will not tension correctly, so the machine is matched to the blade rather than the other way round.

Cutting capacity is the first number and it means the largest section the machine will take, not the size of the machine. The range runs 6in through 8in, 10in, 12in and 15in on the SIP swivel head bodies, with 18in above them and 150mm and 300mm on the Sealey machines. Stock larger than the capacity will not pass the blade whatever the motor does.

Supply phase is a hard constraint rather than a preference. Single phase machines run from a standard supply, three phase machines do not, and the larger 12in and 18in bodies here appear in both. Confirming what the building actually has, before choosing, avoids a machine that cannot be connected. A machine on the wrong phase cannot be corrected by an adaptor, which is why the supply comes before the specification.

Head action decides how the machine is used. A swivel head pull-down saw is drawn down through the work by hand and swivels for mitre cuts. A horizontal machine with a hydraulic arm lowers itself at a controlled rate, which is what allows a cut to be started and left. Vari-speed and manual or auto-cut forms sit between the two.

Blade size is fixed by the machine and stated per line, which matters because blades are the consumable here and the wrong length will not tension. An abrasive cut-off saw at 14in and a three phase industrial circular saw at 12in cover the cuts a bandsaw does not suit. Sheet metal folders sit on the same leaf. Questions go over WhatsApp on 07754288583. Sealey hold industrial power bandsaws above the 150mm bench machines, with mitre and quick-lock vice forms between them.
