Where a strut end simply needs to hinge on a pin, an eye fitting is the most direct connection. The Metrol E3 is a steel eye end fitting with an M6 thread, a 22mm body and a 8.5mm eye hole. It screws onto the strut rod and pins through its eye to a mounting point, forming a hinged joint that opens and closes with the panel. Its M6 thread suits a gas strut with a 6 & 8mm rod, and the eye pins to pin-stud brackets such as BRK-4B, BRK-7B, BRK-8-90. It measures 15mm across the eye boss, on a 9mm shoulder, with a 4.8mm section. Like every end fitting in the range it transfers the strut's force to the structure: a ball joint gives a connection that swivels in any direction, an eye a single-axis hinge, a clevis fork an in-line pinned joint, and a rose eye absorbs slight misalignment. It threads onto a gas strut with a 6 & 8mm rod, and is chosen by matching the thread to the strut and the size to the space behind the mounting. Typical applications include fold-down benches, worktop flaps, toolbox lids, seat bases. Within the M6 eye range, its nearest sizes are E2 and E4, differing by body length; a 316 stainless version is available as SSE3.
