Where a strut end simply needs to hinge on a pin, an eye fitting is the most direct connection. The Metrol E6 is a steel eye end fitting with an M8 thread, a 18mm body and a 8mm eye hole. Threaded onto the rod, its eye accepts a pin at the mounting so the strut can swing as the panel is raised and lowered. Its M8 thread suits a gas strut with a 10mm rod, and the eye pins to pin-stud brackets such as BRK-4B, BRK-7B, BRK-8-90. It measures 18mm across the eye boss, on a 18mm shoulder, with a 9.8mm section. It is one of a family of end fittings that connect a strut to its mounting — a ball joint to swivel freely, an eye to hinge on a pin, a clevis to pin in line, or a rose eye to take up misalignment. Sized for a 10mm rod, the fitting is matched by thread to the strut and by size to the fixing. It is found on display lids, counter hatches, canopy panels, loft hatches and similar panels. Within the M8 eye range, its nearest sizes are E7, differing by body length; a 316 stainless version is available as SSE6.
