Variations
The Metrol NS-V-TR-8-250 is the longest-stroke traction gas strut in the range, with a 250mm stroke. A 340mm compressed length and a 590mm extended length. Unlike a standard strut, a traction unit applies its force as it retracts — it pulls rather than pushes. Force is adjustable across 50 - 600N with a 65% progression so it can be matched to the mechanism. It is built on a 8mm rod in a 22mm body and operates across −30°C to +80°C. A stainless steel alternative is available for corrosive environments. In practice it is used to hold lids, flaps and covers closed, to draw a panel shut against its seal, and to counterbalance or keep a linkage under steady tension. The rod threads into a ball-joint, eye or clevis fitting while the body end mounts to a bracket, positioned so the strut pulls the part towards its closed position. It is chosen wherever a controlled, constant pull is wanted instead of a push, and it is fitted to match the travel the moving part needs, returning the part towards its rest position whenever the mechanism is released. Within the traction range its nearest strokes are NS-V-TR-8-200. The traction range carries a one-year guarantee, with a stainless steel option for damp and outdoor installations.
