Castrol Alpha SP 150 is a mineral-oil-based industrial extreme-pressure (EP) gear lubricant in the Castrol Alpha SP range. The product is formulated for enclosed industrial gear units, providing wear protection, oxidation stability, and protection against corrosion and micropitting.
The ISO VG 150 viscosity grade is positioned for general-purpose industrial gearboxes — a widely specified viscosity for medium-duty enclosed gear service across general industry.
Approvals and performance levels are positioned within the DIN 51517 Part 3 (CLP) industrial EP gear oil specification.
Castrol Alpha SP 150 is also available in a 208-litre drum (PRD00002402) for workshop bulk supply.
The 20-litre pack format is suited to single-machine top-up and small workshop service. Store sealed in the original packaging, in a clean, dry area away from extremes of temperature, to preserve product performance over its shelf life.
The 223°C flash point and -18°C pour point indicate balanced thermal stability and cold-flow performance for typical service.
The Castrol Alpha™ SP gear oil range of high quality lubricants are based upon highly refined mineral oil, enhanced with an extreme pressure additive technology providing good thermal stability and high load carrying capacity. The extreme pressure additive system not only provides high load carrying capacity, but was designed to provide microscopic wear protection. Microscopic wear protection, also known as micropitting protection, is critical in preventing destructive wear at the micro level therefore extending gear life and meeting the evolving demands of smaller and higher output gear boxes. Application The Alpha SP range is recommended for the lubrication of industrial gear boxes using forced circulation or splash and oil bath lubrication. They may be used for the lubrication of spur and helical gears and in some lightly loaded worm type gear applications. They have very good viscosity characteristics to ensure starting torques are not excessively high in cold operating conditions. The additives are compatible with the ferrous and non-ferrous metals used in industrial gear units. The Alpha SP range is compatible with the most common types of seal materials.

A. Both are Castrol Alpha SP industrial EP gear oils meeting DIN 51517 Part 3 (CLP). They differ only in viscosity grade: Alpha SP 150 (this product) is ISO VG 150 for general medium-duty service; Alpha SP 220 is ISO VG 220 for heavier general industrial service.
