When finish-honing a bore to achieve the precise surface texture required for piston ring seating, a fine-grit stone is essential to remove the scratch marks left by coarser stones and produce a controlled, cross-hatch finish. The Sykes Pickavant 02810100 Fine Stone Set is the dedicated replacement and upgrade set for use with the Sykes Pickavant 02810000 Cylinder Honing Set, covering bore ranges of 50 to 180 mm.
The stone set operates within the 02810000 honing tool, which is driven by a rotating drill to abrade the cylinder wall surface. The cotter pins secure the stones within the hone's stone holders, ensuring consistent contact and uniform material removal across the bore.
Each set contains three 100 mm stones ground to a fine 400 grit, along with three replacement cotter pins to maintain correct stone retention. The complete set measures 180 x 80 x 180 mm and weighs 0.09 kg. The stones are suited to the final finishing stage of cylinder honing when used with the 02810000 tool.
Two further stone sets are available to complete a full honing sequence: the 02810200 Medium Stone Set and the 02810300 Coarse Stone Set, allowing progressive stock removal before finishing with the 400 grit fine stones.
Using the correct grit stone for each stage of honing ensures consistent bore geometry and an appropriate surface finish for engine rebuilding work.
