Cylinder honing is essential for proper seal bedding-in and consistent surface finish during engine rebuilds, but the size of the cylinder being worked determines which tool is needed — a hone designed for brake cylinders cannot reach the larger bores of commercial and industrial engines. The Sykes Pickavant 2810000 Cylinder Hone covers the larger bore range, suitable for cylinders from 50mm to 180mm diameter.
This range covers larger automotive engine cylinders, commercial diesel engines, agricultural engines, marine engines, and industrial plant engines where cylinder bore diameter exceeds the capacity of the smaller-bore Sykes Pickavant 02800000 (covering 13–89mm).
The tool features a flexible drive shaft that can be used with either an air drill or an electric drill, providing flexibility in the workshop and accommodating most existing drive equipment. The flexible shaft is also useful when honing in confined spaces where a rigid drive would not fit between the cylinder and surrounding engine structure.
Supplied with a set of medium grade 220 grit stones — the most common grade for general deglazing and finishing work — the tool is ready for use straight from the box. Replacement stone sets are available in fine 400 grit (02810100), medium 220 grit (02810200), and coarse 100 grit (02810300). Each stone set consists of three 100mm stones and three replacement cotter pins.
Overall product dimensions are 490 x 107 x 60 mm and the tool weighs 0.5 kg.
