Cutting large-diameter cables with conventional shears demands considerable effort and risks crushing the conductor — the KNIPEX StepCut® Cable Shears (160 mm) address both problems in a single compact tool. The patented StepCut® stepped-blade geometry cuts wires one after the other rather than simultaneously, reducing cutting effort by up to 40% compared with standard cable shears of the same length. An ergonomic handle design maintains a comfortable, controlled cutting feel even when working at larger cable diameters, while an integrated pinch guard protects the operator's fingers during use. The shears cut multi-core stranded copper and aluminium cables up to 15 mm diameter (50 mm²) and solid copper and aluminium cables up to 5 × 4 mm² (AWG 1/0). Crucially, the stepped action cuts without crushing, preserving conductor integrity. The bolted joint construction ensures precise, effortless, and durable operation throughout the tool's service life. Cutting edges are additionally induction-hardened to approximately 56 HRC for extended edge retention. Please note: these shears are not suitable for steel wire or hard drawn copper conductors.
