Cutting large-diameter cables with compact shears demands excessive effort and repeated passes — the KNIPEX 95 18 225 StepCut® XL VDE Insulated Cable Shears at 225 mm are designed to remove that burden. A high-leverage bolted joint, combined with long handles and optimised cutting edges, delivers noticeably easier cutting than compact cable shears offer. The adjustable joint provides precise and smooth cutting action throughout, whilst a slim head improves accessibility in confined installations. The tool features dual cutting areas engineered for versatility across a wide range of cable sizes. The stepped cutting edge holds small and larger cables close to the joint during the cut, whilst the front cutting edge works through very large cables step by step. This design supports easy one- or two-handed operation with minimum handle opening, even for large cable diameters. A pinch guard is incorporated to prevent operators' fingers being pinched during use. Cutting capacity covers solid copper or aluminium cables up to 35 mm², stranded cables up to 70 mm², and fine stranded cables up to 120 mm². The cutting edges are additionally laser-hardened to a cutting edge hardness of approximately 56 HRC for sustained performance. These shears are not suitable for steel-reinforced cables such as ACSR. Supplied as a single pair of VDE insulated cable shears at 225 mm overall length.
