When a strut and its mounting do not line up perfectly, a rose eye absorbs the misalignment. The Metrol RE10 is a steel rose eye (spherical bearing) end fitting with an M8 thread and a 8mm bore. The spherical bearing at its centre lets the strut self-align and pivot on more than one axis, so it tolerates slight angular and lateral misalignment that would bind a plain eye. It screws onto the strut rod and pins to its mounting, and its thread suits a gas strut with a 10mm rod. Like every end fitting in the range it transfers the strut's force to the structure: a ball joint gives a connection that swivels in any direction, an eye a single-axis hinge, a clevis fork an in-line pinned joint, and a rose eye absorbs slight misalignment. It threads onto a gas strut with a 10mm rod, and is chosen by matching the thread to the strut and the size to the space behind the mounting. Typical applications include storage-box lids, machine guards, fold-down benches, worktop flaps. Across the range, the rose eye fittings span M6 to M14 (RE8–RE16), one for each strut rod size. The self-aligning bearing reduces side-loading on the strut, helping it run smoothly and last longer.
