The Metrol NS-V-TR-14-500 is a traction (pull-type) gas strut with a 500mm stroke. A 616mm compressed length and a 1116mm extended length. A traction strut works in reverse to a normal gas spring, pulling the rod in to apply force; the 300 - 4000N output is set on assembly and progresses about 60% across the stroke. Constructed on a 14mm rod in a 40mm body, it suits tension-and-hold mechanisms and is offered with a stainless steel option for outdoor use. Typical roles include holding a hatch closed, pulling a cover firmly against its frame and tensioning a moving linkage so it does not drift open. A threaded end fitting screws onto the rod and a bracket carries the body end, set so the strut pulls in the closing direction. It suits any mechanism where a steady pulling force, rather than a push, keeps a part where it should be, with its closed and open lengths chosen to bracket the travel of the part it controls.
