Stripping or cross-threading a fastener on mild steel or aluminium components leaves a repair job that demands the right tooling. The Draper 79203 Metric Tap and Die Set provides the means to clean damaged threads and cut new ones across eight standard metric sizes, from M3 to M12, covering the pitch ranges most commonly encountered in automotive and general workshop applications. Every tap and die in the set is manufactured from alloy steel. The eight metric dies and sixteen taps — comprising eight taper taps for thread starting and eight plug taps for completing or cleaning threads — all share a 1"" outside diameter compatible with the included 1"" die holder. Two tap wrenches are provided: an American-pattern wrench with 1/2"" capacity for larger taps and a 'T'-type wrench with 1/4"" capacity for the smaller sizes. A screw pitch gauge completes the thread-cutting toolkit. To eliminate the need to source separate drill bits the set includes eight HSS twist drills in the correct tapping sizes: 2.5 2.9 3.3 4.2 5.0 6.8 8.5 and 10.3mm each matched to the corresponding metric thread size. All 37 pieces are retained in a plastic insert housed within a steel storage case keeping components organised and protected between uses.
