Cutting accurate internal threads in 8mm applications demands tooling that holds its geometry under load. The Draper 83800 Coarse Hand Taps set addresses this requirement with high carbon steel construction and accurately cut coarse threads, delivering the precision and durability expected in professional workshop and engineering environments. The set is supplied as a matched pair: one taper tap and one plug (bottoming) tap. The taper tap allows progressive thread engagement from the entry point making it well suited to starting threads cleanly in through-holes or when working with tougher materials. The plug tap follows to complete the thread closer to the base of the hole enabling full thread depth in blind holes. Using both in sequence produces a correctly formed coarse thread throughout the workpiece. Thread pitch is 1.25mm consistent with the standard M8 coarse pitch specification. Both taps are presented on a display card keeping the pair together and readily identifiable on the workshop board or in a tool store. The high carbon steel material provides the hardness necessary for cutting threads in a range of common engineering materials encountered in automotive and general workshop settings.
