Hand tapping into blind and through holes demands accurate, well-formed threads, and the Draper 83797 Coarse Hand Taps set is manufactured from high carbon steel with accurately cut coarse threads to meet that requirement. The 4mm set features a thread pitch of 1.25mm and is supplied as one of each tap type — taper and plug (bottoming) — giving the user the correct sequence for starting and finishing a tapped hole. The taper tap is used first to guide the thread-cutting process and gradually introduce the thread form into the workpiece. The plug tap also known as a bottoming tap follows to cut threads closer to the base of a blind hole completing the full thread depth. Used together in the correct order these taps allow accurate metric coarse threads to be cut by hand in a range of materials. The taps are presented on a display card making them straightforward to identify store and return to after use. With both tap types included in a single pack this set provides a practical solution for workshop hand tapping at the 4mm coarse metric specification.
