Cutting accurate internal threads by hand demands tooling made to exacting standards. The Draper 83796 Coarse Hand Taps set provides both a taper tap and a plug (bottoming) tap for the 3.5 mm thread size, allowing the user to progressively cut a clean coarse thread from initial entry through to full thread depth at the bottom of a blind hole. Both taps are manufactured from high carbon steel with accurately cut threads ensuring reliable thread formation in a range of materials. The taper tap guides the tool cleanly into the workpiece and begins the thread cutting process while the plug tap completes the thread to the required depth — a two-stage approach that reduces the risk of tap breakage and produces a consistently accurate thread profile. The thread pitch for this 3.5 mm size is 1.25 mm. The set is supplied as one of each tap — taper and plug — presented on a display card making storage and identification straightforward in a busy workshop environment.
