A ratcheting ring works where a plain ring spanner cannot be lifted off and replaced. The head stays on the nut and the handle swings back through the ratchet, which means a fastener can be turned in a space that allows only a few degrees of arc. It is also faster than a plain spanner even where there is room, since the hand never leaves the handle.
That swing arc is the figure that matters and it is a property of the ratchet mechanism rather than the spanner size. A ratchet with fewer teeth needs a larger swing before it engages again, which on a confined fastener is the difference between turning it and not. Tooth count is stated where a manufacturer publishes it rather than being counted on the head.
Reversible heads change direction without the spanner being turned over, which matters when the head cannot be lifted off at all. A fixed head ratchets one way only and has to be flipped, which needs the same clearance a plain ring spanner would. Both head types are held so the direction change is chosen against the clearance available.
Sizes run 8mm, 9mm, 11mm, 14mm, 16mm and 17mm individually with a 12 piece metric set covering the ladder. A ratchet head is not as strong as a solid ring, so a seized fastener is broken loose with a plain spanner first. Send the fastener and the clearance to 07754288583 on WhatsApp. Set contents are stated as a size ladder rather than only a piece count.
