FAQs

Tracked equipment runs both tracks at the same speed under normal operation — the tracks must match in length, tension, and tread depth for straight-line driving and even wear. A new idler on one side and a worn idler on the other puts the new track under different tension than the old, causes uneven track-pad wear, and makes the equipment pull to one side. The same applies to other matched undercarriage components (sprockets, top rollers, bottom rollers, tracks themselves) — always replace as matched sets.

Symptoms of idler failure: visible wear on the idler tread surface (deeper than the manufacturer's wear limit — typically 8-15mm of original tread depth before requiring replacement); play in the idler shaft when rocked back-and-forth (bearing wear); visible cracking on the idler steel structure; uneven track wear or track-walking off the idler. Visual inspection during routine track-tension service is the typical detection — replace at the manufacturer's wear limit, not after failure.

Most plant tracked-equipment uses a grease-track-adjuster mechanism — a high-pressure grease cylinder in the idler-shaft mounting that pushes the idler forward to tension the track. Track tension is adjusted by adding or releasing grease through a grease nipple. Some equipment uses hydraulic-track-adjusters with hydraulic fluid in place of grease. Track tension should be checked routinely (per the equipment manual — typically weekly during service) and adjusted to the manufacturer's specification.

Yes. Replacement idler shafts (matched by length and diameter to the original), replacement sealed bearings (cartridge bearings for sealed-track applications; matched by inner-diameter, outer-diameter, and width), replacement grease-track-adjuster cylinders, replacement seal kits for hydraulic-track-adjusters, and replacement grease-fitting hardware are available alongside the idler range. Match by the equipment make and model; WhatsApp 07754288583 with the equipment details for cross-reference.

Every product is backed by our Fit Guarantee. If a part is incompatible with your machine, you can return it hassle-free. For damaged-on-arrival items, report within 24 hours with photographs to [email protected] — we will arrange collection. For other returns, email us first to obtain a Return Merchandise Number before sending. Returns are accepted within 30 days of purchase, in original packaging, on UK orders. A restocking fee may apply on returns where the buyer has changed their mind. Refunds are issued to the original payment method once the return is inspected.

Delivery time depends on the product, your destination, and availability — the estimated time for any item appears on the product page, and "Check where we deliver" confirms coverage for your postcode before you order. Next-day delivery is available on most products; the option appears at checkout when applicable. We deliver across the UK, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Use the country selector at checkout to confirm coverage and delivery options for your destination.

Within Under Carriage, Idler covers the front and rear idler wheels fitted to plant equipment tracked-undercarriages — covering front idler wheels (front-mounted track-tensioning idlers, with adjustable hydraulic or grease-track-adjuster mounting), rear idler wheels (where the equipment uses front-and-rear idler configurations), bottom idler rollers (which support the track between the sprocket and idler), and the matching idler shafts, bearings, and hydraulic-track-adjuster service parts.

Parts for Machines supplies idler wheels across the plant aftermarket — covering idlers for the major mini-excavator, compact track loader, skid-steer, and larger excavator and crawler-dozer ranges (including the equipment-specific idler patterns for Caterpillar, Kobelco, Komatsu, Bobcat, Takeuchi, Hitachi, Doosan, JCB, and the wider plant equipment population).

Product pages list the equipment make and model the idler is approved for, the idler position (front idler, rear idler, bottom idler roller), the idler diameter and width (must match the equipment's track gauge and idler-mounting position), the bearing type (sealed cartridge bearings for sealed-track applications; serviceable bearings for older equipment), the shaft and mounting specification, the rated load capacity (matched to the equipment's operating weight), and the OEM cross-reference where applicable.

For replacement of an existing idler, the OEM part number is the most reliable match. Where the OEM number isn't available, identify by the equipment make, model, year, and the idler's measured dimensions. Always replace idlers on both sides of the equipment at the same time — a worn idler on one side and a new on the other gives uneven track wear and uneven track tension. Trade pricing on multi-idler and fleet orders is available; contact the team via WhatsApp 07754288583.
