The internal buffer is located inside the shock absorber and is responsible for absorbing the shock at the moment the absorber reaches the end of its stroke, ensuring the integrity of the shock absorber under extreme suspension travel. During reassembly, the cylinder stem must remain fully extended while the outer spring is compressed — without the right tool, this is difficult to achieve consistently.
