The Schumacher SPX457 from Draper addresses this directly as a microprocessor-controlled charger and maintainer designed to support both lead acid and lithium batteries at 6V and 12V, with capacities up to 32Ah. Once charging is complete, the unit automatically switches to maintenance mode, keeping the battery fully charged and helping to extend its service life. A trickle charge function and overcharge protection make it especially well suited to long-term storage applications. Compatible battery types include AGM, Standard, Gel, Calcium, Start n' Stop, and Lithium (LiFePO4). The SPX457 carries an IP66 protection rating and operates across a working temperature range of -20° to +50°C, confirming its suitability for workshop and outdoor environments. A maximum charging current of 1A is delivered via a 1.91m output cable, and the unit runs from a 230V AC 50Hz supply. Protective bumpers are fitted as standard, and built-in safeguards cover reverse polarity, sparks, and overheating. Supplied with two connection options — a cable with clamps and a cable with ring lugs — the charger weighs 0.78kg and measures 131 x 101 x 204mm. Draper Tools is licensed to sell Schumacher products in the UK and Ireland only.
