Keeping a battery in peak condition demands a charger that does more than deliver current — it must adapt intelligently once charging is complete. The Schumacher SPX460, supplied by Draper Tools under licence for sale in the UK and Ireland, addresses this directly: once the charging cycle finishes, the unit automatically switches to maintenance mode, keeping the battery fully charged and extending its service life without risk of overcharge. The SPX460 is microprocessor controlled and compatible with a wide range of 12V lead acid and lithium battery types, including AGM, Standard, Gel, Calcium, Start n' Stop, and Lithium (LiFePo4), supporting batteries up to 200Ah capacity. A trickle charge function and overcharge protection make it particularly well suited to winter storage applications where batteries may sit unused for extended periods. Safety features include protection against reverse polarity, sparks, and overheating. Protective bumpers shield the unit in workshop environments, and a suspension hook adds practical convenience when bench space is limited. The unit operates on 230V AC at 50Hz and delivers a maximum charging current of 10A at 12V DC. Supplied with a 1.95-metre output cable, connection cable with clamps, and a cable with ring lugs, the SPX460 operates across a working temperature range of -20°C to +50°C. Dimensions are 163 x 136 x 218mm and the unit weighs 1.37kg.
