FAQs

Air needle scalers consume significant compressed air. A typical 19-needle scaler draws 4-6 CFM at 6.2 bar / 90 PSI continuously during use. Size your compressor to deliver at least 25% more than the tool's rated CFM at the operating pressure — for a 6 CFM scaler, the practical compressor minimum is 8-10 CFM continuous output at 6.2 bar. Smaller compressors will struggle to keep up and the scaler will lose impact force as supply pressure drops below 6.2 bar.

A pistol-grip scaler is held trigger-down with the barrel pointed at the work surface — the operator's hand sits behind the body, giving good control on flat and slightly-curved surfaces. An inline (straight) scaler is held in line with the air hose, with the head pointed forward — better for confined spaces, deep recesses, and inside-corner work where a pistol grip won't fit. Most workshop fleets carry both styles.

Yes. Needle bundles are wear items — over time, the needle tips wear short and the descaling effectiveness drops. Replacement needle sets are available, matched by needle count, diameter, and length to the original scaler model. Replace the full bundle as a set rather than individual needles. Search by the scaler model code, or WhatsApp 07754288583 with the code and a photograph for cross-reference.

A needle scaler uses a bundle of independently-floating needles — each needle finds its own surface contact, conforming to irregular surfaces and getting into pits and recesses. Best for irregular surfaces, scale, and deep rust. A chisel scaler uses a single chisel point or bar — concentrates impact at one point, giving fast metal removal on flat surfaces and welds. Best for chipping welds, removing flat-surface scale, and breaking up large rust scabs. Many workshops carry both.

Every product is backed by our Fit Guarantee. If a part is incompatible with your machine, you can return it hassle-free. For damaged-on-arrival items, report within 24 hours with photographs to [email protected] — we will arrange collection. For other returns, email us first to obtain a Return Merchandise Number before sending. Returns are accepted within 30 days of purchase, in original packaging, on UK orders. A restocking fee may apply on returns where the buyer has changed their mind. Refunds are issued to the original payment method once the return is inspected.

Delivery time depends on the product, your destination, and availability — the estimated time for any item appears on the product page, and "Check where we deliver" confirms coverage for your postcode before you order. Next-day delivery is available on most products; the option appears at checkout when applicable. We deliver across the UK, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Use the country selector at checkout to confirm coverage and delivery options for your destination.

Within Air Tools, Air Needle Scalers covers the pneumatic descaling and surface-prep tools that use a bundle of needles driven by an internal pneumatic piston to chip away rust, scale, paint, weld spatter, and surface contamination from steel, cast iron, and other heavy metal surfaces. Air needle scalers are the trade tool of choice for prepping welds, removing weathering and rust, descaling castings, and cleaning up structural steel before coating. Parts for Machines supplies air needle scalers across the trade and professional ranges, with rated needle counts typically running from 12-needle compact units (light-duty descaling and detail work) up to 28-needle heavy-duty industrial scalers (heavy rust and scale removal on plant, ship, and structural steel work). We are an authorised distributor and reseller of SIP, Nuair, and Sealey across the air needle scaler range. SIP and Nuair lead the line with trade-grade needle scalers covering pistol-grip and inline configurations. Sealey extends the range with workshop-grade variants. Specifications listed on every product page include the needle count (the number of individual needles in the bundle — more needles cover a wider surface area per stroke), the needle diameter and length (typical 3mm × 175mm for general descaling; smaller diameters for detail work; larger and longer for heavy descaling), the air consumption (in CFM at 6.2 bar / 90 PSI — typical 4-8 CFM for needle scalers, drawing more than most other air tools), the operating pressure (typically 6.2 bar / 90 PSI), the body type (pistol-grip with side-mounted exhaust for general work; inline with end-mounted exhaust for confined-space use), and the weight. Air needle scalers consume more compressed air than most workshop pneumatic tools — size the workshop compressor to match. They're also high-noise tools (typically 95-105 dB at the operator) — always wear hearing protection, eye protection, and dust masks during use. Trade pricing on multi-tool orders is available; contact the team via WhatsApp 07754288583. Most air needle scalers ship next-day across UK mainland.
