FAQs

Steel wire is the general-purpose choice — covers most surface-prep, rust-removal, and weld-clean work on carbon steel and cast iron. Stainless steel wire is essential for stainless-steel work (using a steel brush on stainless transfers carbon-steel particles into the surface, causing rust contamination) and for aluminium work. Brass wire is softer than steel — used on softer metals (brass, bronze, copper, soft aluminium) where steel would gouge or mark the surface.

Crimped-wire brushes have individual wires crimped (bent in a wave pattern) — the wires flex at the surface, giving a softer impact and a finer finish. Best for surface-prep, light rust removal, and pre-paint clean. Twisted-knot brushes have bundles of wires twisted together into rope-like strands — much stiffer impact at the surface, removing heavier rust, scale, and weld spatter aggressively. Best for heavy descaling and deep-rust removal.

Each wire brush has a rated maximum RPM listed on the brush body and the product page. Never exceed the rated speed — wire fragments thrown from an over-speed brush travel at very high velocity. Typical maximum speeds: angle-grinder cup brushes 12,000-15,000 RPM; drill-mounted brushes 4,500-6,000 RPM; bench-grinder wheel brushes 3,000-4,500 RPM. Always wear eye and face protection during wire-brushing operations.

Yes. The common power-tool fitments are: M14 × 2 thread (the European angle-grinder standard — most cup and wheel brushes), 5/8" × 11 thread (the US angle-grinder standard, on imported tools), 6mm or 6.35mm round shank (drill-mounted brushes), and 22mm or 25mm centre-bore (bench-grinder wheel brushes). Match the brush spindle/arbor to the tool. WhatsApp 07754288583 if a less-common fitment is needed.

Every product is backed by our Fit Guarantee. If a part is incompatible with your machine, you can return it hassle-free. For damaged-on-arrival items, report within 24 hours with photographs to [email protected] — we will arrange collection. For other returns, email us first to obtain a Return Merchandise Number before sending. Returns are accepted within 30 days of purchase, in original packaging, on UK orders. A restocking fee may apply on returns where the buyer has changed their mind. Refunds are issued to the original payment method once the return is inspected.

Delivery time depends on the product, your destination, and availability — the estimated time for any item appears on the product page, and "Check where we deliver" confirms coverage for your postcode before you order. Next-day delivery is available on most products; the option appears at checkout when applicable. We deliver across the UK, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Use the country selector at checkout to confirm coverage and delivery options for your destination.

Wire Brush Range

Within Sanding & Finishing, Wire Brush Range covers the wire brushes and wheel brushes used for surface preparation, rust removal, weld-cleaning, and surface-prep before coating — covering hand-held wire brushes, drill-and-grinder mounted cup brushes, wheel brushes, end brushes, and the rotary wire-brush attachments used on power tools. Parts for Machines supplies wire brushes across the trade and professional surface-prep ranges — covering light-duty bench and hand brushes through to heavy-duty industrial wire wheels for plant and structural-steel surface preparation. We are an authorised distributor and reseller of Abracs across the wire brush range. Abracs is a UK-established abrasives specialist with a strong line in wire wheels, cup brushes, end brushes, and the dressing brushes used in surface-prep and weld-cleaning applications — used widely in independent garages, fabrication shops, and plant-yard service operations. Specifications listed on every product page include the brush type (cup brush, wheel brush, end brush, hand brush, dressing brush), the brush diameter (typical 50mm, 75mm, 100mm, 150mm for cup and wheel brushes), the wire material (steel for general use, stainless steel for stainless-and-aluminium work to avoid contamination, brass for soft-metal and bronze work, twisted-knot or crimped-wire styles for different impact-and-finish patterns), the wire gauge (thicker wires for heavier descaling; thinner wires for finer finish work), the spindle or arbor (the mounting fitment to the power tool — typically M14 thread for angle grinders, 6mm shank for drills), and the maximum operating speed (in RPM — must not be exceeded). Wire brushes throw wire fragments at high speed during use — always wear eye protection, dust mask, and use the brush at or below its rated speed. Worn or damaged brushes (with loose or broken wires) should be replaced immediately. Trade pricing on bulk-pack orders is available; contact the team via WhatsApp 07754288583. Most wire brushes ship next-day across UK mainland.
