Grit selection depends on material, machine, and the stage of the job. Lower numbers (24 to 60) suit aggressive stock removal on hardwood, metal, or old coatings. Mid-range grits (80 to 120) bridge stock removal and surface preparation. Finer grits (150 and above) are used for finishing passes where surface quality matters. For floor sanding sheets, starting grit is usually dictated by floor condition, with progressively finer passes to close the grain. When the material or machine is fixed, grit choice narrows quickly, so note both before ordering.

Sanding belt sizes are given as width by length, for example 4 x 36 or 13 x 457. To confirm the correct size, measure the belt laid flat: width across the short dimension and circumference (the full loop length) along the long dimension. If you are replacing an existing belt, check the label on the old belt before it wears away. Sizes are machine-specific, so the same bench sander model can accept only one belt dimension. If you are unsure of the size your machine takes, note the make and model before contacting the team.

135mm sanding sheets are a common format for palm sanders and detail sanders that use a rectangular or square pad, but sheet size must match the platen exactly for the clamp system to grip correctly. 178mm sanding discs are sized for large angle grinders and bench-mounted disc sanders; the bore and backing type must suit the specific machine arbor. Quick-lock and fibre-disc formats use different attachment systems, so confirm whether your grinder takes a threaded, hook-and-loop, or quick-change centre before ordering.
