Two different things share this leaf. Alkaline cells power instruments, torches and remote equipment and are replaced when flat. Tool battery packs power cordless machines, are recharged rather than replaced, and are tied to the platform they were made for. Reading which of the two is being bought is the first step, since nothing else on the leaf transfers between them.
Alkaline cells are chosen by size and then by pack quantity. AAA, C, D and 9V are held, and pack sizes run 2, 4, 12 and 24. Buying in bulk is what keeps a workshop supplied rather than finding an instrument flat when it is needed. Alkaline cells are also dated, so a bulk pack bought and stored still has a usable life stated on it.
Tool pack capacity is quoted in amp hours and it decides runtime rather than power. A 2Ah pack and an 8Ah pack drive the same tool at the same rate; the larger one simply runs four times as long between charges. Pack weight also rises with capacity, which matters on a tool held above shoulder height.
Platform is the constraint on any tool pack, and a pack from one system will not fit another.
