Heavy commercial vehicle brake caliper bolts are often torqued to the upper limits of conventional tooling, and over time corrosion compounds the difficulty — releasing them on the bench is one matter, releasing them in service with the caliper still on the vehicle is another. Slogging wrenches solve this by being designed to take the blow of a hammer on the end of the wrench, transmitting an impact pulse to the fastener that no steady-force tool can replicate. The Govoni GO1311 is a slogging brake caliper wrench in E18 Torx profile, designed for the assembly and disassembly of brake caliper fixing screws on the front and rear axles of heavy vehicles.
The wrench design is specifically intended to release stubborn screws — even the most seized fasteners can be loosened with a hammer blow on the end of the wrench, transmitting the impact through the wrench to the fastener head. This eliminates the need to remove surrounding components such as the steering control tie rod lever, which conventional tools would otherwise require for access.
All Govoni slogging caliper wrenches in this range are equipped with a 3/4 inch square drive, allowing them to be used with a torque wrench during the clamping phase of the operation in accordance with the vehicle manufacturer's torque specifications. This dual capability — slogging for release, controlled torque for refit — covers both ends of the servicing procedure with a single tool.
A torque conversion formula is laser-etched on the wrench. This conversion is necessary because the lever extension of the slogging design changes the effective torque applied at the fastener relative to what a torque wrench reads, and the formula must be applied to set the correct final torque.
