Variations
When a strut and its mounting do not line up perfectly, a rose eye absorbs the misalignment. The Metrol RE12 is a steel rose eye (spherical bearing) end fitting with an M10 thread and a 10mm bore. The spherical bearing at its centre lets the strut self-align and pivot on more than one axis, so it tolerates slight angular and lateral misalignment that would bind a plain eye. It screws onto the strut rod and pins to its mounting, and its thread suits a gas strut with a 14mm rod. It is one of a family of end fittings that connect a strut to its mounting — a ball joint to swivel freely, an eye to hinge on a pin, a clevis to pin in line, or a rose eye to take up misalignment. Sized for a 14mm rod, the fitting is matched by thread to the strut and by size to the fixing. It is found on equipment covers, storage-box lids, machine guards, fold-down benches and similar panels. Across the range, the rose eye fittings span M6 to M14 (RE8–RE16), one for each strut rod size. The self-aligning bearing reduces side-loading on the strut, helping it run smoothly and last longer.
