The exposed piston rod of a gas strut is vulnerable to dirt and knocks, which shorten its life. The Metrol MPT-14-100 is a metal protection tube for the NS-V-14-100 gas strut, with a 32mm tube matched to its 100mm stroke and 280mm extended length. It sits over the piston rod behind a collar, shielding the rod from dust, impact and weather so the seal stays clean and the strut lasts longer. It can be retrofitted to a strut already in service, and a 316 stainless version is available for harsher environments. It is fitted wherever the NS-V-14-100 works in a dirty, wet or knock-prone position — outdoors, on plant, or in a wash-down area — to keep grit and moisture off the piston rod and its seal. Slipping over the rod, it adds little to the installed size while markedly extending service life in harsh conditions, and comes off again if the strut is replaced. Left in place it needs no maintenance and does not interfere with the strut's travel. Within the range, sizes for adjacent strokes are MPT-14-150; to hold the same strut open, use the MLT-14-100 locking tube instead. Protecting the rod preserves the seal and keeps the strut operating smoothly for longer.
