Inverters

Waveform is the decision that matters most and it is easy to overlook. A pure sine wave inverter produces an output like mains electricity. A modified sine wave inverter approximates it, which is fine for heating elements and simple motors and unsuitable for electronics, chargers and anything with a control board. Running a laptop charger from a modified sine wave inverter is the common way this goes wrong.

Continuous output is the second figure and it is the one to size on, not the peak. Peak output is what the inverter delivers for a moment at start-up; continuous is what it sustains. A device sized against the peak figure will shut the inverter down within seconds. A pure sine wave unit also runs a modified sine wave load perfectly well, which the reverse is not true of.

The range here runs 200W, 300W, 400W, 500W, 1000W, 1100W, 1500W and 2000W in modified sine wave, and 300W, 600W and 1000W in pure sine wave. Pure sine wave costs more for the same output, which is the trade for the cleaner supply. Sealey run PI modified sine wave bodies and PSI pure sine wave bodies across those outputs.

Input voltage has to match the source, and these run from 12V DC. A separate converter steps 24V down to 12V at 15A where the vehicle system is 24V. USB outputs on some units charge devices directly without the mains stage. Send the rating plate off the appliance to 07754288583 on WhatsApp and the waveform and output needed get confirmed.

FAQs

A pure sine wave inverter produces an output like mains electricity. A modified sine wave approximates it, which suits heating elements and simple motors but not electronics or chargers.

Continuous, not peak. Peak is what the inverter delivers momentarily at start-up; continuous is what it sustains. Sizing against peak shuts the inverter down within seconds.

200W to 2000W in modified sine wave and 300W, 600W and 1000W in pure sine wave. Pure sine wave costs more for the same output, which is the trade for the cleaner supply.

12V DC on the inverters here. Where the vehicle system is 24V, a separate converter steps it down to 12V at 15A rather than the inverter accepting both.

Some units carry USB outputs, which charge devices without going through the mains stage at all. That is more efficient than plugging a mains charger into the inverter.

Continuous output, input and output voltage and frequency per unit, which together decide whether the inverter suits both the source and the equipment.
