Capacity is quoted per stand on some lines and per pair on others, and both appear on this leaf. That is the first thing to read, because a pair rated at 3 tonne and a stand rated at 3 tonne are very different purchases. The listing states which figure it is giving. Getting that wrong halves or doubles the support under the vehicle, which is not a margin worth guessing at.
Height range decides whether the stand meets the vehicle where it needs to. Minimum height has to be low enough to slide under once the jack has lifted, and maximum height has to reach the support point with the wheels clear. Both figures are stated per stand.
Locking method is where the stands differ most in use. A pin lock drops a pin through the column, which cannot slip but is set in fixed steps. A ratchet adjusts in finer increments. A pneumatic rise stand raises itself to the load rather than being set first, which is quicker with a vehicle already up. Chicago Pneumatic run jack stands at 2, 3, 6, 12 and 20 tonne with MO-TEC pin lock stands below them.
