Upgrade halogens like X-tremeVision are road-legal performance within the standard fitting. LED retrofits are brighter still — the Gen2 range runs up to 250% over standard halogen — but their road-use legality varies by vehicle and application, so check the legality notes on each product page and buy accordingly for road or off-road use.

Because halogen output fades gradually with age: pair a new bulb with a three-year-old one and the road lights unevenly, the old side failing soon after anyway. Pairs cost little more, light evenly, and reset both sides' clocks — which is why twin packs dominate the trade listings.

Usually handling or voltage: bare fingers on halogen glass leave oils that create hot spots — fit with clean gloves or a cloth — and a charging system running high voltage shortens every bulb's life. Check both before blaming the bulb; a vehicle that eats bulbs has a cause, not bad luck.
