Match length to the vehicle and the warning prominence required. For light commercials and small plant, 600-900mm covers most fitments. For HGVs, larger plant, agricultural tractors, and recovery trucks, 1,000-1,500mm gives wider visual prominence. For emergency-service vehicles, full-roof lightbars (1,200mm+) are typical. Most plant and agricultural lightbars offer multi-pattern programming — typical patterns include rotating (mimics traditional rotating beacon), multi-strobe (rapid multi-LED flash), single-flash, and double-flash. For routine plant operation, rotating or single-flash is standard. For high-visibility warning (gritter, snowplough, recovery truck), multi-strobe gives the most attention-getting pattern. Always check operating-territory regulations — some jurisdictions restrict patterns to specific use cases.

Match the lightbar voltage to the vehicle electrical system. 12V is standard on cars, light commercials, small plant, and some agricultural equipment. 24V is standard on HGVs, larger plant, most agricultural and industrial equipment. Wrong-voltage lightbars either fail to operate (24V on 12V) or burn out (12V on 24V). Voltage is listed on every product page; the LEDs in lightbars are typically driven by an internal control board sized to one voltage only.

Most lightbars are supplied with a basic control switch (multi-position rotary or push-button covering the flash patterns) and a wiring harness with vehicle-side connections. Mounting hardware varies — fixed-mount lightbars include the standard bolt-bracket; magnetic-mount portable lightbars include the magnetic base and coiled cable.
