Threading operations requiring Unified National Fine (UNF) profiles demand precisely formed taps capable of cutting clean, accurate threads without tearing or distortion. The Draper 79199 UNF Hand Tap Set addresses this need with ten second taper taps manufactured from special high carbon steel, a material chosen for its hardness and edge retention during hand tapping work. Each tap features accurately cut threads to ensure consistent thread form and reliable engagement across the full range of sizes included. The set spans ten UNF sizes covering both numbered and fractional thread designations: 5 x 44 tpi 6 x 40 tpi 8 x 36 tpi 10 x 32 tpi 12 x 28 tpi 1/4"" x 28 tpi 5/16"" x 24 tpi 3/8"" x 24 tpi 7/16"" x 20 tpi and 1/2"" x 20 tpi. This breadth of coverage makes the set well suited to workshops and tradespeople who regularly encounter UNF-threaded fasteners across automotive precision engineering and general maintenance applications. The second taper tap design provides a gradual cutting lead that reduces the force required to start the thread and helps maintain axial alignment during cutting which is particularly beneficial when working in blind or shallow holes. The set is display packed keeping each tap clearly identifiable and protected when not in use.
