Measuring coating thickness accurately demands an instrument that adapts to the base material beneath the coating rather than requiring the operator to make that determination manually. The Laserliner 082.150A CoatingTest-Master addresses this directly by automatically identifying whether the substrate is ferrous/ferromagnetic or non-ferrous/non-ferromagnetic, then applying the appropriate sensor technology accordingly — magnetic-inductive for ferrous substrates and eddy current for non-ferrous substrates. The instrument is suitable for insulating and non-magnetic coatings on non-ferrous metals. The measuring range spans 0 to 1250 µm, with both single and continuous measurement modes available. To maximise accuracy for specific applications, the device supports one-point or two-point user calibration, and zero adjustment is also provided. Mean value and standard deviation calculations are built in, supporting quality-control and statistical analysis workflows. Up to 400 measured values — organised as 80 measurements per mode — can be stored in the internal memory. Results are transferred to a PC via the USB interface for further analysis, and dedicated software is included in the supply. The unit is powered by two 1.5 V LR03 (AAA) batteries and weighs 116 g, with a compact profile of 23 mm × 110 mm × 50 mm. Supplied as a complete kit including calibration references, software, USB cable, batteries, and a carrying case, the CoatingTest-Master is ready for immediate deployment in workshop, industrial, or inspection environments.
