Infrared and air dryers reach the same result by opposite means. An infrared dryer heats the paint film directly with radiated energy, so the finish cures from within. An air dryer moves warm air across the surface, which dries it from the outside in. Which suits the job depends on the paint system rather than on the panel itself.
Output on the infrared dryers sizes the area covered rather than the speed alone. The range runs 1050W, 2100W and 3150W, and a larger panel needs the wider output to dry evenly rather than in the centre first with the edges lagging. Timers on the infrared heads set the cure time rather than leaving it to be judged by eye.
Stand or handheld decides how the dryer is positioned. A stand holds the head at a set distance and angle, which is what keeps the heat even across a panel. Adjusting a handheld unit repeatedly during a cure introduces exactly the variation being avoided. A double stand holds two dryer heads so a larger panel is covered from both ends at once.
Induction heating sits on the same leaf for a different job: freeing a seized fixing without a flame near paint or trim.
