Variations
The exposed piston rod of a gas strut is vulnerable to dirt and knocks, which shorten its life. The Metrol MPT-8-180 is a metal protection tube for the NS-V-8-180 gas strut, with a 25mm tube matched to its 180mm stroke and 410mm extended length. Its collared body slips over the piston rod, keeping grit, knocks and moisture off it and extending the strut's working life. It can be retrofitted to a strut already in service, and a 316 stainless version is available for harsher environments. Typical uses are exposed or contaminated installations of the NS-V-8-180 where an unprotected rod would pit or foul. It sleeves over the rod to shut out dust, water and impact, protecting the seal and keeping the strut sliding smoothly for far longer than it would unguarded — a low-cost way to add years of service in a punishing location. Within the range, sizes for adjacent strokes are MPT-8-150 and MPT-8-200; to hold the same strut open, use the MLT-8-180 locking tube instead. Protecting the rod preserves the seal and keeps the strut operating smoothly for longer.
