A gas strut on its own will slowly creep closed; a locking tube keeps the panel propped open and safe. The Metrol MLT-14-150 is a steel safety locking tube for the NS-V-14-150 gas strut, with a 32mm tube matched to its 150mm stroke and 380mm extended length. Fitted over the strut, it locks automatically when the strut reaches full extension and holds the panel open until released, removing the need for a separate prop, stay or catch. One tube is fitted to each strut, and it can be retrofitted to a strut already in service. It is used wherever a panel has to stay open hands-free and safely — over a serviceable hatch, under a lifting lid, or on a cover someone must work beneath. Fitted to the NS-V-14-150, it gives a positive, no-tools lock rather than relying on friction alone, and is released by hand when the panel is to be closed. That makes it the right choice where a dropped lid would be a hazard, and it takes the strain off the panel's hinges and catch while held open. Within the range, sizes for adjacent strokes are MLT-14-100 and MLT-14-200; to protect rather than lock the same strut, use the MPT-14-150 protection tube; a 316 stainless version is available as SSMLT-14-150. It turns a standard strut into a self-supporting, lockable one without a separate mechanism.
