A gas strut needs an articulating end that lets the panel swing as it opens; a ball joint provides exactly that. The Metrol B9 is a steel ball joint end fitting with an M8 thread, a 18mm body and a 13mm ball. It screws onto the threaded end of the strut rod and clips onto a matching ball-stud bracket, so the strut can pivot freely through its travel. Its M8 thread suits a gas strut with a 10mm rod, and the 13mm ball clips onto BRK-4A, BRK-6A, BRK-6R-A, BRK-7A. The ball sits on a M8 stud 16.5mm long behind the 18mm body, threading into the bracket socket side. Like every end fitting in the range it transfers the strut's force to the structure: a ball joint gives a connection that swivels in any direction, an eye a single-axis hinge, a clevis fork an in-line pinned joint, and a rose eye absorbs slight misalignment. It threads onto a gas strut with a 10mm rod, and is chosen by matching the thread to the strut and the size to the space behind the mounting. Typical applications include inspection hatches, equipment covers, storage-box lids, machine guards. Within the M8 range, its nearest sizes are B7-10S and B10, differing by body length; a 316 stainless version is available as SSB9.
