A gas strut needs an articulating end that lets the panel swing as it opens; a ball joint provides exactly that. The Metrol B1 is a steel ball joint end fitting with an M6 thread, a 18mm body and a 10mm ball. Threaded onto the strut rod, it snaps over a same-size ball stud on the mounting bracket, giving a joint that swivels as the panel moves. Its M6 thread suits a gas strut with a 6 & 8mm rod, and the 10mm ball clips onto BRK-1, BRK-2, BRK-3, BRK-4. The ball sits on a M6 stud 13mm long behind the 18mm body, threading into the bracket socket side. It is one of a family of end fittings that connect a strut to its mounting — a ball joint to swivel freely, an eye to hinge on a pin, a clevis to pin in line, or a rose eye to take up misalignment. Sized for a 6 & 8mm rod, the fitting is matched by thread to the strut and by size to the fixing. It is found on equipment covers, storage-box lids, machine guards, fold-down benches and similar panels. Within the M6 range, its nearest sizes are B5, differing by body length; a 316 stainless version is available as SSB1.
