Shot blasting drives abrasive at a surface under air pressure to strip it back to clean metal. The two things that decide whether it works for a given job are whether the part fits inside the cabinet and whether the media is right for the finish wanted. Everything else follows from those.
Cabinet internal size is the hard limit and it is quoted as three dimensions rather than a volume. The range runs 640 x 490 x 490mm at the small end through 760 x 510 x 715mm and 890 x 570 x 1380mm to 960 x 720 x 1500mm, and a part that will not fit cannot be blasted in it at any setting. Sealey run the SB cabinet ladder across those sizes with a gun supplied on the smallest body.
Media decides the result. Glass beads clean and leave a satin finish without cutting into the surface, which suits alloy and anything that is going back into service as it is. Grit cuts, which is what takes rust and scale off steel. Beads run 180 to 300 microns and grit 200 to 700 microns. Media is bought by the tub and is consumed rather than lasting the life of the cabinet.
Double access cabinets have openings on two sides so a long part can pass through rather than being turned inside. Portable kits at 22kg blast what will never go in a cabinet, working outdoors with a grit hose. Blasting needs an air supply matched to the gun.
