Blade width on a scraper decides how much surface is cleared per stroke and how well the blade follows the shape underneath. A 40mm blade gets into a recess and round a stud. A 100mm blade clears a flat face far faster but bridges anything that is not flat. Blade width is stated on every scraper rather than being judged from the photograph.
Rigid blades are what separate a gasket scraper from a putty knife. A flexible blade rides up over the residue rather than cutting under it, which leaves material behind on a face that has to be clean before it will seal.
Hooks and picks work in the opposite direction, getting under and behind rather than across. A mini hook set at 125mm reaches into a bore.
