FAQs

Measure four things on the original spring or a sample: wire diameter, outside diameter (of the coil body), free length (hook tip to hook tip with no load applied), and the end type (German hook, English hook, or closed loop). Note the material too. Carbon steel is standard for most applications; stainless or zinc-plated versions suit damp or outdoor assemblies. With those figures confirmed, filter the listings on PartsForMachines by dimension to find a direct cross-reference.

The 200mm figure refers to the free length, measured from hook tip to hook tip with no tension applied. That figure alone is not enough to select the correct part. You also need the outside coil diameter and wire gauge, because spring rate is determined by all three dimensions together. A spring with the same free length but a different wire diameter will have a different load characteristic and may not perform correctly in the original application.

Yes. Many listings are available in packs suited to trade use rather than single-unit retail. Where a machine uses a matched pair or bank of springs, replacing the full set in one order is the correct approach. If you need a specific quantity not shown on the listing, contact the team via WhatsApp 07754288583 or email [email protected] and they can advise on what is available.

Each product page on PartsForMachines carries the dimensional data needed to cross-reference against the original part. If the original part number is still legible, search that reference directly. If the spring has no visible marking, use your measured dimensions to filter the listings. For fitment confirmation before ordering, use Ask Simon on the relevant product page for an instant fitment check.

Returns are accepted within 30 days of purchase, in original packaging, on orders delivered within the United Kingdom. For damaged-on-arrival items, report within 24 hours with photographs to [email protected] — we will typically arrange collection and replacement at no cost to you. For parts that don't fit your machine, the Fit Guarantee covers a hassle-free return at no cost. For buyer's remorse — you've changed your mind or ordered the wrong item, email us first to obtain a Return Merchandise Number; a restocking fee may apply. Refunds are issued to the original payment method once the return is inspected.

Delivery time depends on the product, your destination, and availability — the estimated time for any item appears on the product page, and 'Check where we deliver' confirms coverage for your postcode before you order. Next-day delivery is available on most products; the option appears at checkout when applicable. We deliver across the UK, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Tension Springs

A tension spring pulls rather than pushes, and the 199 springs on this shelf all share one design advantage over the common kind: the turnable bolt end. Instead of a fixed hook, each spring ends in a threaded bolt that turns independently of the coil body, so the spring anchors to a tapped hole or a through-bolt and its working tension fine-tunes in place by turning the bolt, with no twisting fed into the spring body during fitting and no hook left to spread slowly open under load.

The pick is two dimensions: outside diameter and free length. The spring bodies run 18, 23 and 32 millimetres in outside diameter across the shelf, and within each diameter the free lengths step evenly, the 18 millimetre family from 120 through 150, 180, 210, 240 and 270 millimetres, the larger bodies stepping their own runs up to 290, so the fixed mounting distance and the pull wanted between the two anchors pick the spring together.

The turnable bolt is why these springs serve machine duty: hooks are the weak end of an ordinary extension spring, the first part to stretch open and the first to let go under a shock load, and the bolted end replaces that failure point with a thread, which also means a worn spring swaps out without disturbing either of its anchors.

Diameter and length typed into search find the spring at once, a worn one measured across and along its coil matches directly, and a photo with a rule laid alongside over WhatsApp on 07754288583 comes back with the size named and the nearest length steps offered honestly where the exact measurement falls between the listed springs.
