Take three measurements from the existing installation: the external body width and height (the bezel footprint), the cutout aperture in the panel skin, and the panel or door thickness at the fixing point. The cutout dimensions are the most critical figure, as body sizes vary between manufacturers and a mismatched cutout will prevent a flush, secure fit. Note the latch projection too, particularly if the door frame depth is shallow, and confirm whether the striker plate is integral to the frame or a separate component that also needs replacing.

A plain swing handle latches the door by rotating a quarter-turn and relies solely on that mechanism for closure. A padlockable swing handle adds a hasp or shackle loop in the closed position, allowing a standard padlock to be threaded through and locked off. This is the format specified wherever access needs to be controlled or restricted, such as electrical enclosures, roadside cabinets and mobile plant. Some padlockable versions also accept a cylinder insert for a keyed option without an external padlock.

Not universally. Body dimensions, cutout sizes and latch projections differ between manufacturers, so a direct like-for-like swap is not always possible when changing brand. The safest approach is to match on panel cutout size first, then confirm the bezel footprint covers the existing aperture cleanly. Where the original part number is known, use that as the starting reference. For non-standard or older enclosures, cross-referencing by cutout dimensions rather than brand name gives the most reliable match.
