The Sykes Pickavant 03800000 Valve Spring Compressor is a heavy-duty unit specified for medium and heavy commercial vehicles, buses, and agricultural, marine, and industrial plant engines.
The frame is constructed from rust-proofed steel, providing the rigidity required to compress heavy commercial valve springs without flex, and the geared hand wheel adjustment allows controlled, repeatable compression rather than the over-eager release that lever-style tools can produce.
The tool is supplied with two pairs of jaws to suit different access situations: straight jaws and cranked offset jaws. Straight jaws have a minimum aperture of 95mm and a maximum of 186mm, with a 245mm throat. Cranked offset jaws have a minimum aperture of 75mm and a maximum of 165mm, also with a 245mm throat — the offset profile allowing access on engines where straight-line compression is obstructed by surrounding components.
The 245mm throat on both jaw sets accommodates the larger valve assemblies found in commercial and industrial engines, where access depth is often greater than on car engines.
