Match the dolly to the load. An engine dolly is a tall rolling support with a platform sized to take an engine block, often with V-cradles for cylinder heads or specific engine-bay shapes. A transmission dolly is similar but lower and with a longer narrow platform sized for a gearbox. A wheel dolly is low and short, sized to slide under a tyre and roll the wheel. Vehicle skates are flat low-profile dollies that go under each wheel of a parked vehicle to roll the whole vehicle sideways or in tight spaces.

Always size the dolly capacity to exceed the load weight, allowing for impact and dynamic loading. For a typical 200-300kg engine block, a 500kg-rated engine dolly is the practical minimum. For a transmission (typically 50-150kg), a 250-500kg dolly is sufficient. For vehicle skates moving a whole car (1,000-1,500kg total weight), four 500kg-rated skates is the standard set, allowing each skate to take roughly half-axle weight.

No. Dollies are rolling supports only — they are not stable enough for working underneath, and they do not lock or chock against load shift. Always transfer a lifted load to axle stands or workshop stands of appropriate capacity before working underneath. Dollies are for moving loads between bay positions; stands are for supporting them in place.

Yes. Replacement castors (matched by load rating, wheel diameter, and mounting pattern), platform pads, and frame hardware are available for the majority of Sealey dollies. Castors are the most common wear item — a dolly with worn or damaged castors should not be used until castors are replaced.
