A micrometer measures one range and no more, which is why they are sold in overlapping bands rather than as one instrument. The frames here cover 0 to 25mm, 25 to 50mm and 50 to 75mm, and a component outside the frame simply will not fit into it. That is also why micrometers are quoted by range rather than by maximum size.
