Tier count sets how much a trolley carries and how it is reached. Two tiers keep everything visible from standing. Three tiers carry more but the lowest one has to be bent to. That is a working decision rather than a capacity one. Reading the height of the lowest tier against the work being done is what settles it.
Width decides where the trolley will go as much as what it holds. At 646mm it passes between a vehicle and a bench that a 714mm trolley will not, and the wider body carries longer items without them overhanging the tray edge. Capacity is stated on 21 of the 53 lines, so the trolley is matched to the load as well as the space.
The worktop is usually ordered separately and matched to the trolley width, which is easy to overlook. Hardwood and stainless steel tops are held for both 646mm and 714mm, and a trolley without one has trays rather than a working surface. A trolley with the worktop already fitted is held at 714mm for a bay wanting one purchase.
Diagnostic trolleys are a different form for a different job, carrying equipment in drawers rather than stock on trays, at 4 drawer 34 inch and 5 drawer 25 inch. A pull handle turns any of these from a trolley pushed by its contents into one steered properly.
