EVA thickness is what separates a mat that cushions from one that only covers. At 22mm there is enough material to take the pressure off a knee or an elbow on concrete. At 28mm there is more, which matters over a long job rather than a quick one. A thin mat on a cold floor also loses its point within minutes, whatever it does for cushioning.
Mat size then follows how the work is done. A kneeling mat at 450 x 215mm is moved along as the work moves. A full mechanics mat at 990 x 490mm stays put and takes the whole body, which suits working under a vehicle rather than beside one.
Bench and counter mats do a different job again, protecting the surface rather than the person. A cutting mat at 300 x 450mm takes a blade without scoring the bench, and a counter mat at 622 x 470mm protects a finished top from what is put down on it. Bench mats also stop small parts skidding off the surface, which a bare bench does not.
Protective covers on the same leaf work on the parts rather than the operator: rim protectors for motorcycle tyres and rubber covered jaws at 100mm, 150mm and 180mm that stop a vice marking what it holds. A tarpaulin cord set secures a cover over stored goods. Send the surface to 07754288583 on WhatsApp. A plastic tow ball cover sits on the leaf for the same reason, protecting what would otherwise mark clothing.
