Pneumatic breakers are the most powerful and most reliable for heavy work — but require a compressor sized to the breaker's air consumption (typically 25-50 CFM for medium breakers, 80+ CFM for paving breakers). Mains-electric breakers are self-contained, work anywhere with mains power, and cover light-to-medium work — the workshop and small-site default. Battery breakers offer cordless freedom for site-work but with reduced impact energy and limited runtime — best suited to light-to-medium intermittent work.

Common breaker shank fittings: SDS-Plus (smaller rotary hammers, light demolition), SDS-Max (medium-to-heavy demolition), 18mm hex (medium pneumatic and electric breakers), 25mm and 28mm hex shanks (heavy paving breakers).
